Dar Meso Artist Residency Tunisia

 Dar Meso is an international artists' residency in Tunis, Tunisia. I attended the residency for seven wonderful days in the last week of October 2022. For details and application forms see darmeso.com 

The residency is based in a former Convent with a wonderful garden in the Medina of Tunis the capital of Tunisia 

The residency describes itself like this 

Not only is it an international artist residency,  Dar MESO is a training center, a debate venue and a gallery for artists coming from around the world.

Nestled in an old convent built for contemplation, DAR MESO gives to the artist a piece of nature in the middle of the city, a calm and exotic place that scales up innovation and fosters cultural exchange.

The residency is run by a charming and helpful couple Florence and Youseff. The former convent has four main wings over two stories including a kitchen on each floor plus a rooftop with amazing views of the Medina

During a week, we have been blessed to have @eurekaartist in #residency at #darmeso. Such a sensitive person and an open hearted #artist connected to himself. We can see that in his works. We had the chance to throw a nice intimate #exhibition for him with a wonderful brunch and wonderful people.

It was a charming exhibition over brunch with recent paintings strung between trees in the garden, a showing of the video of my Scarlatta  exhibition and a spirited discussion about queer art, censorship and the place of queer people in societies still developing their definition and expectations of democracy, a highlight of my 5 weeks overseas trip  

I highly recommend this  residency for self -motivated artists, Dar Meso is a safe place to explore the culture of Tunisia while in the company of other creatives . You can access the amazing knowledge of the Directors Florence and Youseff  and you will feel at home just like the cats !
